1914Chem. Abstr. VIII. 2894 Prodigiosin, the pigment of B[acillus] prodigiosus, is more sol. in alc. than in water. 1950A. H. Corwin in R. C. Elderfield Heterocyclic Compounds I. vi. 320 Tripyrrylmethanes are also of some interest because of the fact that they are leuco bases of tripyrrylmethane dyes, one of which, prodigiosin, has been isolated from a natural source. 1968A. Albert Heterocyclic Chem. (ed. 2) v. 234 Pyrroles are well represented in Nature. Apart from the many porphins and related tetrapyrroles.., there is the bacterial pigment prodigiosin, and the antibiotic netropsin. 1971Jrnl. Antibiotics XXIV. 636 Prodigiosin..is the bright red pigment of Serratia marcescens and was probably responsible for many medieval ‘miracles’ involving the appearance of blood stains on the Holy Host. |
