A foolish or superficial person; a gossip, a smatterer. (App. peculiar to Bastwick.)
1637Bastwick Litany i. 8 See the parishioners be rich and plump as the grols said. Ibid. iii. 21, I could be as voluminous as any man, and yet never take quotations at the second hand, as many grolls in this age doe.
Hence † ˈgrollery [Du. grollerije], folly. † ˈgrollish a., foolish, senseless, superficial.
