‖ gousblom S. Afr.|ˈxəʊsblɒm| Pl. ˈgousblomme. [Afrikaans, ad. Du. goudsbloem, marigold.] A plant with showy flowers belonging to any of various species of Arctotis, Gazania, and some other related genera of the family Compositæ.
1822W. J. Burchell Trav. S. Afr. I. xi. 229 The term Goudsbloem, like too many of the colonial names, is applied gratuitously to various plants, fancied to have a resemblance to the Marygold. Different species of Arctotis have generally been pointed out to me for it, and sometimes a kind of Cotula. 1902H. J.
