umbiliˈcanimism rare. [f. L. umbilīc-us umbilicus + anima soul, after late Gr. ὀµϕαλόψυχος.] The practice of looking steadfastly at the navel, followed by the Hesychasts, in expectation of an outward exhibition of the light supposed to dwell within the soul of man.
