The name of Robert George Collier Proctor (1863–1903), English bibliographer, used attrib. or in the possessive in Proctor method = Proctor('s) order; Proctor number, the number assigned to an early printed book in Proctor's Index; Proctor('s) order, a system of classifying early printed books geographically and chronologically, first used in the Index to the Early Printed Books in the British Museum (1898–1938) begun by Proctor.
