1954Curtis & Cross in Chem. & Ind. 28 Aug. 1066/1 In attempting to isolate gibberellin A from culture filtrates of this fungus we have instead isolated another compound with similar biological properties. We propose to call this compound gibberellic acid. 1956Wall St. Jrnl. 13 Dec. 1/1 In tests, gibberellic acid made such plants as sunflowers, roses, petunias and asters grow up to three times the height of untreated plants in three to four weeks. 1962C. A. West in Florkin & Stotz Comprehensive Biochem. XI. ix. 152 An exchange of samples and a comparison of properties soon showed the identity of gibberellic acid, gibberellin A3 and gibberellin X. 1968New Scientist 21 Mar. 651/1 Gibberellic acid, the principal gibberellin, is known to be responsible for inducing the synthesis of the enzyme..in barley seed..that breaks down the starch food reserve within the seed during germination. |
