gazolyte|ˈgæzəlaɪt| [a. F. gazolyte, f. gaz gas + Gr. λυτός soluble.] a. (See quot.) b. ‘A body which is resolvable into a gas. Ampère's term for those elementary bodies which by combination form gases’ (Syd. Soc. Lex. 1885).
1842Francis Dict. Arts, etc., Gazolyta or Gazolytes, a name given by Berzelius to such simple gases as are permanently elastic. These are oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen. |
