galactoside Chem.|gəˈlæktəsaɪd| [a. F. galactoside (M. Berthelot Chim. org. fondée sur la Synthèse (1860) II. iii. iii. 286), f. galactose + -ide.] Any glycoside in which the sugar is galactose. Hence gaˌlactoˈsidase, any enzyme that hydrolyses a galactoside to galactose and an aglycone; galactoˈsidic a., of, pertaining to, or characterized by a galactoside.
