tris, n. Chem.|trɪs| Also Tris. [f. tris-.] 1. [f. trishydroxymethylaminomethane.] The crystalline compound (HOCH2)3CNH2, 2-amino-2-(hydroxymethyl)propane-1,3-diol, used as a buffering agent. Also tris buffer.
