trifoliate, a.|traɪˈfəʊlɪət| [f. tri- + L. foliātus leaved: cf. trifolium trefoil.] Three-leaved; esp. in Bot. consisting of three leaflets, as a compound leaf; also of a plant, having such leaves; transf. having the form of such a leaf.
