A proprietary name for: any of various indices of share prices based on the prices of a declared list of shares on the London Stock Exchange; spec. (in full100) an index based on the one hundred largest companies in terms of market capitalization. Freq. attrib., esp. in FTSE (100) index.
Other indices are based on other groups of companies, such as the largest 250 companies or all the companies listed.
