frusemide, n. Pharm.|ˈfruːsəmaɪd| Also (chiefly U.S.) furosemide, (in early use) fursemide. [f. furyl n. (subsequently rearranged as fru-) + sem-, of unknown origin + -ide.] A potent diuretic drug, C12H11ClN2O5S , used esp. in the treatment of oedema; 4-chloro-N-furfuryl-5-sulphamoylanthranilic acid.
