fludrocortisone Pharm.|ˌfluːdrəʊˈkɔːtɪzəʊn| [f. *flu(orohy)drocortisone.] A synthetic derivative (C21H29FO5) of hydrocortisone which causes retention of sodium and loss of potassium and which is given orally in the treatment of adrenocortical deficiency and to supplement cortisone in the treatment of Addison's disease; also ellipt. for the acetate, the form in which the drug is usu. given.
