An East Indian tree, Cedrela Toona, which yields a timber resembling mahogany but softer and lighter, used for furniture and cabinet-work: the wood of this tree, also called Indian mahogany. Also attrib., as toon-tree, toon-wood.

In early use (from 1930) also as ‘Terry-Toon’, the name given to the cartoons produced in the U.S. by Paul Terry and his company.
