‖ tokonoma|ˌtəʊkəˈnəʊmə| Also 8–9 toko, tokko. [Jap.] In a Japanese house, a recess or alcove, usu. a few inches above floor-level, in which pictures, ornaments, etc., are displayed. Also attrib.
