† aˈffriction Obs. Also 7 adfriction. [ad. L. *affrictiōn-em, n. of action, f. affrict- ppl. stem of affricā-re to rub on; f. af- = ad- to + fricā-re to rub. The ordinary cl. L. form was affricātio; the simple fricā-re had both fricāt-um and frict-um.] The action of rubbing one thing upon another.
