fierasfer|faɪəˈræsfə(r)| [mod.L. (L. Oken 1817, in Isis CXLVIII. 1182/1), f. Pr. fieras-fèr, fielat-fèr, f. fieras, f. OPr. filat thread, net (f. L. fīlum file n.2) + fèr fierce, wild (f. L. ferus ferous a.).] A small parasitic fish of the family Carapidæ, which includes a genus once called Fierasfer, found in the Mediterranean and in British waters; also called pearlfish.
