A naturally occurring brittle, highly lustrous, black mixture or complex of carbon and hydrocarbons with uraninite.
1928H. V. Ellsworth in Amer. Mineralogist XIII. 66 A remarkable carbon mineral, which will be described in another paper under the name of thucholite, is sometimes very intimately associated with both uraninite and samarskite. 1938R. W. Lawson tr. Hevesy & Paneth's Man. Radioactivity (ed. 2) v. 62 Fig. 22..shows the L-spectrum of the mineral thucolite. 1965G. J. Williams Econ. Geol. N.Z. xiii. 207/2 ‘The radioactivity in the carbonaceous matter is due to myriads of minute uraninites, 1 to 5 microns in size, distributed at random or as strings of granules.’ Mr Whittle identified this uraniferous mineral as thucolite. 1980Mineral.
