A sulphur analogue of pentobarbital sodium that is given intravenously as a short-acting general anæsthetic; sodium 5-ethyl-5-(1-methylbutyl)-2-thiobarbiturate, C11H17N2O2SNa. Also called thiopentone sodium. Cf. Pentothal.
