† theoten, v. Obs. Forms: 1 ðeotan, ðiotan, ðutan, 3 þeoten, (Orm.) þutenn. [OE. þéotan, (pa. tense þéat, þuton) = ON. þjóta to whistle, etc., OHG. diozan to howl:—OTeut. *þeutan (þaut-, þut-). OE. had also another pres. stem þútan, whence þútende pr. pple. and þutenn in Ormin; so Da. tūde:—*þúta to howl. Cf. búᵹan, bow v.1] intr. To howl.
