Eritrean, a. and n.|ɛrɪˈtreɪən, -ˈtriːən| [f. Eritrea, the Italian name given in 1890 to a territory in N.E. Africa, which became a province of N. Ethiopia in 1962 (ad. L. Mare Erythraeum the Red or Arabian Sea, f. Gr. Ἐρυθραϊκός πόντος (f. ἐρυθρός red)), + -an.] A. adj. Of or pertaining to Eritrea, or to the ancient civilization which flourished in this region.
