† temperant, a. (n.) Obs. Also 5 -aunt(e. [ad. L. temperānt-em, pr. pple. of temperāre to observe moderation: see temper v. So F. tempérant (16th c. in Godef. Compl.).] 1. Of persons: Observing temperance or moderation; sober, temperate.
