2. In special collocations.
a. taxed cart, a two-wheeled (orig. springless) open cart drawn by one horse, and used mainly for agricultural or trade purposes, on which was charged only a reduced duty (afterwards taken off entirely).
1795Act 35 Geo. III, c. 109 §2 For and upon every Carriage with less than four Wheels,..which shall have the Words ‘A taxed Cart’, and also the Owner's Name and Place of Abode, there shall be charged and paid the yearly Sum of ten Shillings. 1801W.
