Any organic compound that contains the unsaturated alcoholic group ·CH:C(OH)· and is a tautomeric form of a corresponding keto compound. Hence eˈnolic a., of or pertaining to an enol; ˈenolase, a crystalline enzyme that acts as a catalyst; ˈenolate, a metallic derivative of an enol; enoliˈzation, conversion into enols or enolic groups.
