[Origin uncertain; possibly a. ON. *einkarliga (cf. mid.Da. enkorlig adj. especial) f. einkar- prefix; specially, very (= einkan- whence einkanliga especially). But this is not quite satisfactory with regard to the sense. Cf. Sc. inkirt ‘anxious’ (Jam.).]
