1. Short for dura mater.
1882Wilder & Gage Anatom. Technol. 447 Notwithstanding its feminine form, dura is frequently employed without the substantive mater. 1886Med. News XLIX. 536 The dura was universally adherent on both hemispheres. 1890F. P. Foster Med. Dict. 2166 Ligamentum dentatum..Its outer edge is serrated, the serrations being adherent to the inner surface of the spinal dura.
