† sursise Obs. Also 9 (Hist.) sursize. [a. AF. sursise (cf. med.L. sursisa, supersisa) negligence, delay, ? hence, penalty for this, vbl. n. fem. f. surseoir:—L. supersedēre to supersede.] A penalty formerly exacted at Dover for failure to pay the castle-guard rent.
