1. One who indites; author, writer, composer.
1388Wyclif Esther viii. 9 The dyteris and writeris of the kyng weren clepid. 1535Coverdale 2 Sam. xxiii. 1 A pleasaunt dyter of songes of Israel. 1585Animadv. Kirk in J. Melvill Diary (1842) 234 For the Saxt Act, the dytter thairof apeires to be verie cairfull.
2. An orator, rhetorician.
