The doctrine or practice of hypnotic suggestion. Hence suˈggestionist, one who advocates or practises suggestion; one who treats disease by suggestion; also attrib.; suˈggestionize v. trans., to influence or treat by suggestion.
1892Athenæum 2 July 17/3 In order to combat materialism it calls to its aid hypnotism, ‘*suggestionism’, or even spiritualism.
