dissepiment Bot. and Zool.|dɪˈsɛpɪmənt| [a. L. dissæpīmentum that which separates, a partition, f. dissæpīre (-sēpīre): see dissept.] A partition in some part or organ; a septum. spec. a. Bot. A partition consisting of the coherent sides of adjacent carpels, separating the cells of a syncarpous ovary or fruit. (Partitions otherwise formed are called spurious or false dissepiments.) b. The middle part of a lamella of the pileus in hymenomycetous fungi: = trama. c. Zool. One of the horizontal plates connecting the vertical septa in corals. d. One of the divisions between the body-segments of an annelid.
