kokerboom S. Afr.|ˈkʊəkəbʊəm| [Afrikaans, f. Du. koker quiver + boom tree.] A large aloe, Aloe dichotoma, the size of a small tree, whose branches were formerly used to make quivers for arrows; = quiver-tree (quiver n.1 2).
1774F. Masson Jrnl. 2 Nov. in Phil. Trans R. Soc. (1776) LXVI. 309 We found a new species of aloe here, called by the Dutch Koker Boom, of which the Hottentots make quivers to hold their arrows. 1812W. J. Burchell Jrnl. 14 May in Trav. S. Afr. (1824) II. vii. 199 The natives more towards the western coast, frequently use the branches of the Aloë dichotoma, which is therefore called by the Hottentots and Colonists, kokerboom or quiver tree. 1920F.
