Diels (1876–1954), German chemist + -drin, after aldrin: so called because the Diels-Alder reaction (the diene synthesis) was used in preparing it.] A crystalline solid, C12H8Cl6O, white when pure and light brown in commercial preparations, which is an epoxide of aldrin and is used as an insecticide.
