devel, n. Sc.|ˈdɛv(ə)l| Also devvel, devle. [Derivation unknown.] A severe or stunning blow. Hence ˈdevel v., to strike or knock down with a stunning blow; ˈdeveller, a boxer; also ‘a dextrous young fellow’ (Jamieson).
