depside Chem.|ˈdɛpsaɪd| [ad. G. depsid (Fischer & Freudenberg 1910, in Justus Liebig's Ann. d. Chem. CCCLXXII. 35), f. Gr. δέψ-ειν to knead (see quot. 1910) + -ide.] Any of a group of organic compounds found principally in lichens (see quot. 1956).
