delafossite Min.|dɛləˈfɒsaɪt| [a. F. delafossite (C. Friedel 1873, in Comptes Rendus LXXVII. 213), f. the name of G. Delafosse, French mineralogist (1796–1878): see -ite1.] A black oxide of iron and copper, CuFeO2, found chiefly in crystalline form or as botryoidal crusts.
1873Jrnl. Chem. Soc. XXVI. 1107 Finer specimens were subsequently found in the collection of the museum of natural history. The name delafossite is proposed for it. 1968M. H. Hey in Mineral. Mag.
