deify, v.|ˈdiːɪfaɪ| [a. F. déifier (13th c. in Hatzf.), ad. L. deificāre (Augustine and Cassiodorus), f. de-us god + -ficāre: see -fy.] trans. To make a god of; to exalt to the position of a deity; to enroll among the gods of the nation or tribe.
