stegomyia|stɛgəʊˈmaɪə| [mod.L. (F. V. Theobald 1901, in Jrnl. Trop. Med. & Hygiene IV. 235/1), f. stego- + Gr. µυῖα fly.] A mosquito of the genus formerly so called, now usually regarded as a sub-division of the genus Aedes, which includes tropical and subtropical species responsible for the transmission of yellow fever.
