Etymology: chron- + -graph
: an instrument for measuring and recording time:
a. : an instrument consisting of a recording apparatus (as a stylus and revolving drum) connected with a clock or chronometer and used for recording the precise clock time of astronomical and other occurrences
b. : a watch having in addition to conventional hour, minute, and second hands a center sweep-second hand that can be stopped, started, or reset to zero and that indicates intervals of time as small as 1/5 second
