: a mineral UO2 that is a black octahedral or cubic oxide of uranium, that contains also thorium, the cerium and yttrium metals, and lead, that often yields when heated a gas consisting chiefly of helium, and that is the chief ore of uranium (hardness 6.6, specific gravity 9.7 when unaltered) — called also cleveite; see bröggerite, nivenite, pitchblende |
