The Caprimulgus Virginianus, which the Americans call the night hawk, was flying about in a meadow in bright sunshine.

First referring it to the genus Caprimulgus, its original describer soon saw that it was no true goatsucker.

Although he used the name Caprimulgus, it will be observed that he does not mention the "vulgar error" which led to its being so called.
