Ospreys, hawks, peregrine falcons, red-throated loons, snowy egrets and, of course, Baltimore orioles — the birds, not the baseball players — can been seen there.

There is nothing as white as a snowy egret, and few things are as graceful.

According to the district, which is the state agency overseeing Everglades restoration efforts, the numbers of snowy egrets are declining and remain far off target.
