Volunteer groups are now being requested to use recycling containers made of paper or sugarcane bagasse instead of foam boxes.

The plantation has burned mostly bagasse, the fibrous residue of squeezed sugar cane, but it also has used coal to fuel its Puunene Mill generators.

Paper comprises mostly cellulose, and plenty of waste cellulose is out there, including bagasse, the fibrous byproduct of extracting juice from sugar cane.
