Indigenous Sikkim people worship caves, rivers, lakes and other natural elements in this region, and they have fused these beliefs with Buddhist practices and concepts.

Mr Mallais wrote to the Sikkim authorities after our investigation prompted the latter to launch an inquiry.

Sikkim, in the west, has stunning Buddhist monasteries, and Assam, in the northeast, also has tea gardens as well as wildlife.
