Sometimes the inflammation extends to the tubes—salpingitis—or, passing outward through the fimbriated extremities, it may spread over the adjacent peritoneum.

The pneumococcus, pathogenetic of pneumonia, is met with in many other diseases, such as pleurisy, salpingitis, meningitis, etc.

The disease may spread up the genital passages, causing endometritis, salpingitis and septic peritonitis, or may extend into the bladder, causing cystitis.
