- a US organization set up by George W Bush in 2002 to encourage people to work on as volunteers for their country. There were three major programmes within the Freedom Corps: firstly, the Citizen Corps, concerned with safety and anti-terrorism measures in the US; secondly, a programme to increase the number of people helping their local communities; thirdly, a programme to expand the Peace Corps. President Obama continued certain aspects of the Freedom Corps.
