Woody Guthrie

- (1912-67) a famous US folk singer who played the guitar and wrote more than 1 000 songs. Many of his songs were written during the Great Depression and were protests against poverty and war, but he also wrote many happy songs, including This Land is Your Land and So Long, It's Been Good to Know Ya. Guthrie was a major influence on popular musicians in the 1960s, especially Bob Dylan and his own son, Arlo Guthrie.
