- George Jeffreys (c. 1648-89) a British judge who condemned to death many supporters of the Duke of Monmouth at the Bloody Assizes of 1685. He is often given as an example of a cruel and wicked judge. He was made a baron in 1685 but later fell out of favour and died in prison.
