Horace Walpole

- (1717-97) an English author, the son of Robert Walpole. His best-known book is The Castle of Otranto (1764), an early Gothic novel set in the 12th–13th centuries. Walpole is also famous for his house, Strawberry Hill, which he designed as a Gothic castle.
