Selfridges

- a famous department store (= large shop where many types of goods are sold in different departments) on Oxford Street, London. It was built by an American, Gordon Selfridge (1858-1947), in the art deco style and is one of the oldest and largest department stores in Britain. New Selfridges stores have opened in Manchester (1998 and 2002) and Birmingham (2003).
