- (1904-2000) an English actor. He was well known for his fine voice. He first became famous for his stage performances in Shakespeare plays with Laurence Olivier in the 1930s, playing characters such as Romeo and Hamlet. He was also successful in comedy plays, and appeared in many films. He is considered one of the greatest actors of the 20th century. He was made a knight in 1953.
